Who We Are:  The Volunteer Auxiliary (Vol Aux) is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization funded through grants and donations.

The Volunteer Auxiliary was founded by a small group of volunteers in 1985 as an auxiliary organization to the animal shelter in Jackson, NJ. The mission of Vol Aux is to increase the adoption rate and decrease the euthanasia rate of shelter animals. We primarily work with the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility in Jackson, NJ, but we are involved in multiple facets of rescue throughout Ocean County.

Some of our current programs include Bus Events, Dog Walking Program, Cat Room Program, Dog and Cat Fostering, Pet Food Pantries, TNR (Trap Neuter and Return).

The Volunteer Auxiliary is run solely by dedicated volunteers committed to helping shelter and homeless animals. A large part of our adoptions are done at off-site locations, staffed solely by volunteers. These locations have enabled us to place many animals in loving homes.

Visit us at our off-site center at PetSmart on Hooper Ave in Toms River or watch for our mobile adoption unit.

Foster Program:  Fostering is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Opening your home up to foster kittens or cats or fostering a dog allows us to save more from the shelter. You provide the love and safety of a home, we can provide everything else. Contact us to find out more!
